1. Which practical skills and methodologies have you developed within this module and how effectively do you think you are employing them within your own practice?
Drawing from reference has been highly valuable to during this module, I employed it within the briefs alongside my research as a method of record keeping. I think I have developed my drawing skills in that I have learnt to change the way draw for certain situations. Being out on research days left me little time for highly detailed sketches as I was working previously.
2. Which approaches to research have you found most valuable during this module. How have you interrogated your research to identify appropriate ideas?
I never thought too much about different research approaches before this module and would do almost all of my research online, however whilst working on visual narratives I found being out a just talking to people sparked my imagination. Collecting this first hand research like this became imperative to my practice and I can see myself using it voluntarily to inform my work in the future.
3. What strengths can you identify within your submission and how have you capitalised on these?
I believe my submissions strongest asset is the drawing. I have developed my skills during this module by working on a much larger scale. I think setting myself the challenge of drawing almost four metres worth of book showed these best.
4. What areas for further development can you identify within your submission and how will you address these in the future?
During this module I did attempt to employ more colour here and there in my development work. I feel I still have not been brave enough in regards to colour leaving my work in a rather boring and flat state. Looking forward I want to address this by forcing myself to use colour in almost anything I do.
5. How effectively are you making decisions about the development of your work? What informs these decisions? What problems have you identified and how have you solved them?
When developing my work during this module I have started trying to act more drastically to feedback given at crits where as sometimes before I would just continue to work how I wanted to. I also used mock ups with effect identifying issues with my work and layout before correcting them on the final print.
6. How effectively have you managed this project and organised yourself during this module?
In terms of time management I think I have been rather sufficient during visual narratives. Getting my research together was a task I think exhausted effectively due to well organised research visits. On the hand I put myself under a lot of pressure when it came to drawing the book and unfortunately found little time to work on covers, this is a good example of the poor time management on this project.
