Looking further into the Lino printing purpose I invested in some printing medium for mixing with acrylic paint. Still not getting the result of a clean print I was after but a different texture that I rather like. I've also started to play different with stock, I think the off white used here gives an aged quality or adds to the weathered look the print has.
Thinking ahead to another Lino cut I put a print into Photoshop and played with different compositions by simply collaging different parts of the alien in different ways, loosely depicting species from Adams's work as I had imagined them. I like the consistency in these images and considering the set of prints required for the module outcomes, I wouldn't mind working with Lino.
Interchanging parts of these images has sparked a few ideas for my sting project. The way the pieces fit together is almost organic I can in visage them moving or twisting and shifting, perhaps transforming between creatures.
Working in this way is something completely new to me. Using shape was initially a challenge, however I find how I am simplifying images in this way to be rather satisfying.
Taking time out from only working on images related to 'The Meaning of Liff' is also refreshing. I think working from a broader view of Adams's work, giving me more freedom, will continue to excite me in this way. I think working from the one book in the way that I planned was restricting.
