I have been drawing a lot and I believe that my drawing skills have developed further than when I began the module. Experimentation with mixed media alongside my drawing has also been relatively successful, e.g. applying colour to my pencil drawings in Photoshop. Methodologies such as making roughs on such a vast scale was also rather new to me. I believe that this helped me excessively when it came to developing ideas.
2. Which principles/ theories of image making have you found most valuable during this module and how effectively do you think you are employing these methods?
Generating many ideas for each brief has changed the way I go about image making. I now visually put my thoughts down and I think this has contributed to my areas of success tremendously. The pace at which I have been roughing is lengthy as I have a tendency to work further into a drawing, this hinders me in terms of time however when I come to develop ideas I find myself a few steps ahead.
3. What strengths can you identify within your submission and how have you capitalised on these?
My submissions strongest asset is the drawing. I have deployed my skills during each brief to produce the best quality drawings to my ability. I also made use of drawing along side digital process to complete some images. I would also say that my drawings have been backed up by some unique ideas that looked upon the briefs from varying angles.
4. What areas for further development can you identify within your submission and how will you address these in the future?
Lack of experimentation has been an issue for me during this module - In the future I plan to tackle each brief using at least one unfamiliar method during the developmental stages. I also have a tendency to over complicate ideas/ concepts - this has effected my level of success on briefs so far. In the future I aim to state the obvious (too a certain extent).
5. In what way has this module introduced you to the Ba (Hons) Illustration programme?
Blogging as we do on the programme, has been the biggest change from previous education. I have found so far that it helps me to get the most significant elements within my work explained. I have also been given a good idea of the quantity/ quality of work expected.
