Tell An Untold Story Pt 2 - Picture Book - Colour Experimentation

Following the crit previous colour experimentation appeared to be key in resolving my images. When experimenting with the colour / texture behind my drawings I strove to keep it simple - not over
confusing the already detailed and in some places subtle line work.

Applying colour to my drawings in this way was somewhat satisfying considering all of the detailed work was completed. I like the bold red against the white giving it an almost comic feel. This is not however what I was aiming for. My drawings are attempting to depict a grimy scene and feel the colour must relate to that.

This experiment made an attempt at snotty colours. I used a coffee stain texture I made to layer over the drawing with a high opacity giving it varied colour strengths in different areas that I am not overly happy with. It takes away from the drawing. Thus far my preference is the simple snotty green colour I used with my test print: it's de-saturated quality did not over confuse things.

After much consideration and some peer opinions I have decided to use the same fill colour found on my test print out as I think the muddy green is appropriate and complimentary of my pencil work. To reach this image in Photoshop I added a layer with this as a fill colour before changing the layer mask to multiply. The layer opacity is then reduced to 30% before I adjust the levels and sharpened the image.
