The word 'shelter' says a lot to me about comfort and security and maybe ignorance, alot of my friends seem lo live a sheltered life - ignoring or away from certain things.
Initial thoughts went something like this; security, dry, warm, comfort, care, ignorance, shielded, protection, home, umbrella, building fort out of sofa, hood, trees, parents, drugs, bus.
I could have used this opportunity to have a pop at some people that don't seem to see whats going on around them however instead I developed a warming image centred around security. Some of the subjects get rather deep for me with Illustration Friday however I was able to avoid this as I've always felt rather secure, probably because I still live with my parents, this image can be a translation of that.
Made an attempt at make use of scale in order to represent a dependant being looked after buy a greater being. I had planned on using a mother/child theme however my Lino cuts aren't easily gender specific but I think this works just as well. I planned on making a warm picture and although the colours are quite the opposite there is a lot of warmth in the imagery, the big guy keeping the little one safe.
In conclusion this is one of my favourite pieces for the Illustration Friday work so far, building an image using separately Lino cut pieces to build a composition was successful, I like the differing angles and lines I can get by collaging the Lino. I've also continued to make use or desaturated textures/colours I like the quality of these behind the bold black shapes.
