This file shows the digital development of the Headingley Bear Pit image. I begin with the Linocut shapes and build the image up from there sampling textures from my other prints to build the character. The golden section curve is what I use to build stronger composition as the image progresses. As the image developed I also started to apply colour and more subtle textures to backgrounds, I find that doing so as I add different components works well.
I didn't have too many problems in making the work. One issue I had was the ratio of printed to digital shapes. To begin with I felt the rough textures were too frequent, however as cleaner digitally produced shapes came in I feel it has evened out.
Another minor speed bump was text. I don't consider myself to be an accomplished designer so usually steer clear of type, however in this instance it was unavoidable. As I have before keeping the type simple worked in my favour, I think it and the space left around it compliments the active compositions.
I really enjoy making images in this way and as I approach the end of this year I feel I have a better idea of what my process is, more so than ever before. The following are the finished three images ready for application...
