Took the spirit to Photoshop. At first, working over the rough I mapped out the basic shapes and applied some printed textures from old Lino textures, also playing a little with colour palettes. Previously I discussed the possibility of sampling colour palettes from Eisner's work to pay a bit of homage, however now after a little experimentation I feel it's more important that I use colour to strengthen the night time: cool blues, purples, greys to contrast with the warm night glow of the village. Another reference to Eisner left behind, however I still think that the image still endorses an essence of 'The Spirit' as a protector.
After the experiments with colour and texture I stripped the image back down to the shapes and started making refinements. I re drew the village through the use of shape to suggest the rooftops, chimneys and windows. This process also provides me with an positive that I could easily take to screen print, people like an image with narrative so hopefully something I could make a few sales on.
