OUIL603 - Monolith

Following the proposal Monolith got back to me with high enthusiasm. They agreed that the design needed to be bold and that less texture would be great as long as the hand crafted elements were still visible. Joe really liked my second bold design, this early on in the process he and the team were adamant that this was the design they wanted to use. I was more than happy with this so set about resolving the image to work on a T shirt.

In answer to my previous questions they had decided that after seeing the success of my recent Pink Panther t's they also wanted to print the design onto long sleeve salmon t shirts or possibly printing pink designs onto black shirts as they had seen in one of my other variants. Either way the process would be the same for me so I refined the design, using less texture and cleaner shapes.

The orientation also changed according to feedback. On one of the previous t mockups the guys spotted an upside down lizard that they all prefer the composition of. Working on this I agree and having more weight at the bottom of the image agrees with elements of the Gestalt compositional laws.

Completing this image left me feeling something was missing so I looked a little further into how Monoliths idol company: Polar work with their collaborating artists. This Polar t shirt (below) incorporates 'Pontus Alv's' figurative bright and bold shapes into the Polar logo. I don't want to adapt the Monolith logo in a similar way as their designs rely on small and accurate text and pattern, however it would add to the project if their logo was incorporated in the design somehow (not just having their logo on the front and my artwork on the back).

I suggested this to the guys and they sent me a circular logo to be included as one, or an additional circle. They agreed that it would be better to see their branding alongside my work, giving it a bit more context as a collaboration perhaps.
