OUIL603 - Relic

Working on the chosen designs I sent Relic another set or roughs. I was very confident in the left, even going to the lengths of listening to electronic music (which was complete torture). Elliot replied again really liking the work but said I need to completely loose the character, which I thought worked well with the pendant. I did attempt a small argument in the character's favour however they were not keen. They also specified that they want more detail on the relic it's self.

This brought up a few new problems in what appeared to be a very straight forward brief. I now had to completely re construct the composition to include no character at all. I now find the image rather boring and incomplete.

Now within my last revision agreed for the price I sent this (below) rough back to Relic. I did not receive a reply for two weeks until I sent an email following up. Relic then got back to me explaining that: "were not really feeling the designs". I replied requesting a cancellation fee as I had put many hours work in already, however they refused this.

This was really disheartening for me as I was excited to start working with people on the local music scene and to be associated  with a record label. I was also pleased with how the designs were looking before the character element was removed. Turns out that Relic are a bunch of wankers anyway. There's now no way for me to get a payment however in the future I will request payment or part payment up front. I mocked up my favorite design from the project on the Relic Facebook page, this just made me a bit sad.

In reflection I feel that I worked professionally on this project and went about answering the brief as best I could when working with complete arseholes. In terms of the physical work this has made me question weather my designs are appropriate for logo designs or music briefs.
