Initially - Process

To begin with I considered the composition of the poster. I knew I wanted to draw the fish swimming together however in an unconsidered composition this could look ridiculous. This in mind I based the composition around the golden section. Using the golden section I aimed to make the overall piece compositionally interesting. Luckily fish having a rather tangible form and playing with scale I was able to easily able to fit them into place without difficulty.

Drawing the fish was a surprisingly complex and arduous task. I worked on a lot of detail within each drawing and drawing on different scales presented problems. I found that getting constancy within the drawings was difficult because of the varied scale. I had to adjust the way I was drawing the smaller scale fish in order for them to work well with the larger scale ones i.e. limiting the amount of deep tone easily put into smaller drawings and making sure I used similar flowing gestures within all varying scales.
