My picture book is going to be about an order of monks living in the Dark Ages that having joined the order for the wrong reasons and abuse their new found power to indulge in certain aspects of life that monks are forbidden from.
What Are You Trying To Achieve?
I want to produce a book that unveils the credibility of church officials during the dark ages possibly leaves the viewer with thoughts around corruption within religious organisations of today.
How might this book function?

These Ideas Are Based On My Research Into...
Corruption within the monasteries during the Dark Ages and my visit to Kirkstall Abbey as well as my extensive conversation with Steve.
In Order To Develop These Ideas My Research Over Christmas Will Be...
Making further visits to churches and a cathedral studying architecture as well as engaging in conversation / debate concerning corruption within the church today with people I come across in these locations.
Self Evaluation
What Have You Discovered About Research Over The Last Two Weeks?
I have discovered that to get something interesting to work with you have to go out. Exploring places and just talking to people has been invaluable to me thus far. I have also found that primary and secondary research go hand in hand.
Which Research Approaches Have Your Found Most Beneficial?
Drawing from primary sources has helped me a lot so far, sitting and working in an environment related to my story has assisted me in imagining aesthetics for my final work. Again simply getting out and talking to people was also impeccably useful.
Which Research Approaches Have You Struggled With?
I found physically being able to visit place I wanted to a challenge. The dark arches visit was unfortunately foiled by security guards twice. I did also find secondary research a challenge considering information on my subject if very rare.
What Do You Regret About Your Approach To Research During This Brief?
Most of all I regret not persisting with my research in the Dark Arches, I would have very much enjoyed to make a book about a journey under the city. Being something of storng personal interest to me I feel that I might have enjoyed the research even more than I have with monks.
What Kind Of Media, Skills, Tools And Processes Are You Going To explore?
Many different methods appeal to in regard to this project. I want to continue drawing in pencil or ink before possibly applying colour digitally with textures or with the use of watercolour paints
