Tell An Untold Story Pt 2 - The Picture Book - Crit

My post Christmas crit was with Kristyna Baczynski and a small group of peers. I presented an early version of the first drawing for my book (seen below) simply being the line work for later digital additions.

Kristyna and the group had plenty of helpful suggestions with what to do for colour/texture as well as layouts. It was suggested that I use the Lightbox to paint watercolour shades to be later applied digitally or maybe just a block colour behind the drawing leaving all the work to the lines. Another idea was to block different colours into the lines. Next I plan to experiment with the application of colour and texture digitally before completing the following twelve drawings.

Moving on we discussed my main character. I explained that I think the character in this image is not clearly identified and that I planned to pick him out during application of colour, perhaps filling each section with a single colour and outlining him with the eraser? I had attempted to use each characters eyes as a visual device looking towards him in the bottom left (throwing up) however this is not clear enough for my liking. We came to the conclusion that this image works  well as a tool to set the scene for the book - a grimy overcrowded and poverty stricken city full of drunks and ne'er-do-wellers. I plan to use this for that exact purpose introducing the character in the following panel.

Finally I explained the format I wanted my book to be in was concertina. We discussed how a twelve page A4 landscape concertina could have problems with structure. Kristyna suggested that I make scale mock ups in order to be sure about the tangibility of the book.
