Composition - Line Of Sight

The aim for this weeks task were to understand how line of sight can be used to change how the viewer looks at/prioritises different components within an image.

My image prepared for the session (above) is a pice of concept art by Andrew Leung. I chose it due to the fact that prior to the session I didn't understand to much about line of sight and it makes relatively simple use of it. After having studied all images during the session I feel confident that I could recognise use of line of sight within photographs, drawings, paintings, film... Line of sight is cleverly used to make the viewer see elements with images in a certain order and can give it dynamism.

In my composition I attempted to include as many elements as possible that would lead the viewer to my focal point (the character in the ballon) i.e. sandbag/rope, clouds, tallest steeple, scarf. The sandbag was an attempt to put some dynamism into the drawing.

I think I have been successful in using line of sight and will certainly make use of it in future work. It gives my drawing an energetic feel that sometimes I feel my work can lack. Making use of small details such as the clouds makes a strong but subtle difference that I will continue to consciously take advantage of.
