1. Which practical skills and methodologies have you developed within this this module and how effectively do you think you are employing them within your own practice?
Throughout this module I have been pushed to experiment with various media and techniques new to me. I thoroughly enjoyed compositional studies and now go about image making from a very different angle: planning compositions instead of adjusting them as I go. My practice has also changed in that I take more risks with media than I would have before as I have tried to leave pencil work out for some of the work. Using shape as a drawing tool was completely new to me for example.
2. Which principles/ theories of image making have you found most valuable during this module and how effectively do you think you are employing these within your own practice?
The most valuable principle that I have made use of consistently over this unit is working in roughs before the resolved images. I now use roughs before making any work. The effectiveness of this is questionable as I do tend to rough lightly then go straight in with the first idea I like. I would benefit from more development work during the roughing stage.
3. What strengths can you identify within your visual language submission, how can you capitalise on these?
I think my submissions strengths lie in my drawing skills. I have a strong grasp at working with pencil and have made use of this where I saw fit. I can use these in future to greater effect by putting more work into roughs.
4. What areas for development can you identify within your visual language submission and how will you address these in the future?
My submission is weak in areas due to my stubborn preference of working in pencil. Where I had no choice but to use other mediums I made work to the best of my ability however in my head this will never meet the standard with which I can use a pencil. In the future I plan to spend more time taking risks with other mediums besides pencil outside of briefs to improve upon my weaker skills.
5. In what way has this module informed how you deconstruct and analyse artwork (whether your own or that of a contemporary practitioners)?
I now look at pictures how pictures are built using different compositional methods. I feel I can take more than 'inspiration' away from others work looking at how physical elements have been arranged to make the work aesthetically pleasing.
