After much fiddling with different sizing and placement of the text this is the resolved image. I'm really happy with how menacing and dark what I've produced is. I think the black printed areas work well with the weathered background texture the colour also contrasting strongly in an attempt to stand out as specified in the brief.
The back cover and spine were kept very simple. I found putting imagery around or behind bulk text distracting. I didn't like the blank back page either so made use of the hat and key simply, in order to coordinate with the front.
