We had our first meeting very early in the process to get some ideas rolling and so that we could all keep the brief slowly ticking way as we all have other work on.
Before we met I had a few ideas and questions regarding the MSC brief. My thoughts on the 30 second animation were in very early stages. I was thinking of something hand drawn with fish moving in epic proportions, swimming in schools perhaps characterizing the happy MSC fish a bit like in the 'Bed Knobs and Broom Sticks' film. The word 'Pride' was used in the brief and I was unsure on how we were going to translate that into our work - something I plan to question.
We bounced a few ideas off each other with not much to show for it. All of our ideas you could pick massive holes in regarding the brief and we came to a halt. This is where we started a word association. It soon became obvious that we had ideas that looked negatively on the subject of sustainable fishing, instead of making the audience feel guilty we must show how the ocean is being improved by MSC.
We left it at that and went away to come up with different ideas for the next meeting all having agreed that we must be positive and make appropriate work for MSC's target audience of trendy 18-25 year olds.
We were all a bit confused as to how we would include a feeling of 'pride' in the work so any ideas on that for the next meeting were encouraged.
